In simple terms, it is a process for managing tasks from start to finish, giving yourself the best chance of delivering what you set out to, and to meet the expectations of all stakeholders.
What is project management’s place in healthcare?
Project Management can be used in healthcare to:
• Resolve operational issues
• Implement policies that benefit patients
• Improve patient experience
• Resource allocation initiatives
• Improve communication between staff
Not all clinicians and leaders get an opportunity to be trained in functional project management. Certified training approaches can be lengthy, expensive and do not always translate to the health and social care working environment.

Utilise General project management features and approaches: Prince2, Agile methodology, Gantt charts, risk matrix etc
Initiation – set the purpose and scope, including cost estimates, assign a project manager – get approval.

Connect project to governance and reporting structures. Set reporting format and timescales to relevant groups for oversight.
Set meeting timescales for project meetings with enough time inbetween to get work done.
